A video game core loop is the primary gameplay loop that the player experiences throughout the game... we're not designing a core loop, but rather giving creators a skeleton on top of which they may build really simple and satisfying core loops.
Quests
So starting with quests, we wanted to give creators an adaptable billboard across which they could plaster signs that say, "go here," or "do this first," in line with explorer feedback that despite the aesthetic appeal of spaces on our platform, most lack a sense of direction. dbx
Completion
A series of chained actions that connect to form a linear experience. One after another, tasks transport players from one action to the next.
Progresion
Grinding a repetitive action to unlock money, items, experience, or to get to the next level. Common in punch-wall and lawnmower type games in Roblox.
Markers & Plaques
Players are directed to their next destination by utilizing flat markers that have been linked to specific tasks and mapped to corresponding spatial locations. dbx
Status
If quests function as a billboard that points to where to go and what to do, status functions as a HUD that communicates the state and context of the game. Creators can add gameObjects like vehicles, events like timers, descriptors like text blocks, and indicators like progression counters. dbx dbx dbx
Banners
Many preach that the cornerstone of successful core loop is in a few key interactions that make all the difference. Layering a high degree of visual polish to the scene, banners make every collection, every achievement, and every honor feel like a half-court buzzer beater. dbx-controls
